Early Childhood Trauma: Helping Children and Families Through Troubled Times -- In society today, most children will face some type of traumatic event before they reach age eighteen. These traumas can take many forms and the range of deleterious effects can be mild and short-term or have long-term, lifelong consequences. In this training, we will look at different types of traumas experienced by children with an emphasis on emotional responses facing our families, communities, and the world of today and the potential impact that this may have on the future development of our nation’s youth. We will also look at the role of the early childhood professional in assisting children and their families to weather this current crisis with positive outcomes.
Learning Outcomes:
- Define trauma, its incidence in childhood, its consequences during the lifespan
- List the common childhood responses to trauma and Identify risk factors and warning signs
- Review protective factors and how to support children’s emotional well-being
- Learn strategies to best take care of your own individual needs and maintain emotional well-being
