High Scope Curriculum  - An Introduction  - 6-session series

The High Scope Curriculum is a complete system of early childhood education based on many decades of child development research and proven instructional practices.

It is based on active participatory learning which is child-initiated and built on children’s natural curiosity. Teachers and children share the responsibility for learning and are partners in the process.

Teachers’ responsibilities include:

  • Engaging children in supportive child-adult interactions,
  • Creating a challenging learning environment,
  • Establishing a consistent daily routine, and
  • Doing on-going assessments to make plans and meet children’s educational needs.

HighScope’s Key Developmental Indicators (KDI’s) frame the content of learning, both for Infants and Toddlers and Preschoolers and include the important and meaningful concepts that lay the foundation for future learning on a continuum from simple to complex, and help teachers evaluate both the children and the program.

The curriculum content is aligned with the Florida Standards and the Head Start Standards. There is an emphasis on the interdependence of these at every developmental age making this curriculum exceptional for all ages and stages of children.

This course will assist teachers in understanding what children need to learn and the strategies for implementation.

This will be an excellent course for all those who work with young children, even those not implementing the HighScope Curriculum.
