Citrus Health Network Presents: It Starts with You, Part 1: Self-Regulation Skills for Early Childhood Professionals.

Description:Self-regulation is a useful tool for Early Childhood Professionals because it fosters responsive caregiving practices and supports the development of self-regulation skills in the children for which they care. Teachers with strong regulation skills provide a warm, calming presence in times of distress. This helps children make sense of overwhelming emotions and return to calm. Over time, children develop the ability to do this for themselves through a process called co-regulation. This session focuses on the importance of self-regulation skills for early childhood professionals as a foundation for supporting the development of self-regulation skills in young children.

After this session participants will be able to:

  • List the benefits of self-regulation skills for early childhood professionals
  • Discuss the benefits of regulation on responsive caregiving practices and the student-teacher relationship
  • Identify strategies to develop self-regulation in early childhood professionals
