Effective teacher and children classroom interactions promote children’s social and cognitive development. Nurturing school environments and well managed settings that provide engaging significant learning opportunities make the difference for children to succeed. (TeachStone, 2014).
As part of the Florida Bill 419 for the new VPK program accountability -VPK Performance Metric- , VPK educators best practices will include effective teacher and children interactions based on the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observation tool.
These sessions will support VPK educators on their practice to:
- Identify the Domains for PreK CLASS (Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support) and their dimensions
- Recognize opportunities to develop effective teacher and children interactions throughout the day
- Create a list of intentional efforts: -standards, prompts, phrases, materials, routines…- to support children social and cognitive development
