Description: The Junior Journey of Hope offers children in kindergarten through grade 1 the opportunity to better normalize their emotions and develop positive coping strategies through cooperative play, creative arts, and literature. The Junior Journey of Hope has been designed to support children post-disaster but is general enough to be used in a variety of contexts.
Program Goals:
- Support children in understanding and normalizing emotions associated with trauma or other difficult circumstances
- Support children in developing positive coping strategies to deal with their emotions
- Build on the innate strengths of children, their families, schools, and communities to further develop positive
- coping mechanisms
- Instill a sense of hope, empowering children to feel more in control.
Implementation: Junior Journey of Hope workshop is organized into 4 hours sessions that focuses on educating teachers on how to help children: understand and normalize key emotions, identify triggers and stressors and develop positive coping strategies to deal with these emotions.
After the completion of the workshops, teachers will implement this curriculum in the classrooms. Each hour session will focus’ as follows:
Session 1: Introducing Junior Journey of Hope: Exploring Emotions
Session 2: Sadness: Understanding and Coping
Session 3: Fear: Understanding and Coping
Session 4: Worry: Understanding and Coping
Session 5: Anger: Understanding and Coping
Session 6: Bullying: Understanding and Coping
Session 7: Self-Esteem and Action: I Believe I Can
Session 8: Me, My Emotions and My Community

Important Notes:To receive CEU’s or In-service training hours, participants must adhere to attendance policy (see below). Participants must demonstrate learning gains. All learning outcomes must be met through course assessment, actively participate in class discussions and exercises, complete all assignments, and complete & submit evaluations., before a certificate will be awarded. Participants must attend the entire course. Partial CEUs or in-service hours cannot be offered.
