The training is designed to ensure that childcare providers will be equipped with the skills and resources they need to best protect children from harm. This training demonstrates how planning is essential and what tools we need to have to be prepared. Being prepared helps childcare providers to protect the lives of the children in childcare, as well as staff and volunteers. It also helps them to minimize risks, reduce stress, build empowerment, and lessen the emotional impact of a disaster. The training will also teach participants ways in which to be prepared so that they have stronger safeguarding of their program’s business and to be able to more quickly reopen after a disaster.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to identify hazards and risks at their child care site. They will also be able to create a written plan that addresses the emergency needs of their program, going beyond the DCF licensure requirements of a written plan. They will also know how to communicate, practice, and update their emergency plan on a regular basis.
